Great coaching tip about arms. I’m big on arm actions bad arms equal bad legs. Thanks for train tip.
I can easily notice the affect of good arms, as I find it easier to maintain top speed
Two things, to move faster you have to go through a shorter range of motions with the arms and shorten them.
Along with you only have time to stroke one arm. The other arm will follow along as best as it can. If you try to stroke two arms fast, you end up with short choppy arm actions.
This was one of the quickest and easiest fixes we did to our program last year and turned our best female sprinter into a state contender and school record holder in the 100m and 200m dashes. She nearly broke our 400m record as well. Just take 5 minutes out of your practice and work on this for the first month, and occasionally add it in as the season goes on, for refreshers. Simple and difference making drill, all in one.
last week I took time out to talk to my 12 athletes about arm action and the importance correct technique. I spoke to them prior to racing last night in the 400m and surprise surprise most beat their PB. One 13 year old girl took 5.5 secs of her bestand told me she was really concentrating on ig arms. It is great to see these athletes improve and see in their faces how much they are loving it. Thanks
