Why I’m leaving Athletes’ Acceleration
When I first started coaching, I worked with athletes in pretty much every sport. Our first clinics were multisport. The first Complete Speed Training was aimed at general speed development.
But as the years have gone by, I’ve found myself specializing.
Here in 2011 I have become focused almost exclusively on developing track and field athletes.
Fortunately, I’ve been Blessed to get to know a number of extremely intelligent and successful track and field coaches.
I can’t count how many times I’ve been on the phone with great minds like Tony Veney, Marc Mangiacotti or Kebba Tolbert and said,
“Man, this is great stuff. We should be recording this. People need to hear this!”
The truth is, these coaches spend so much time studying and applying their craft, they don’t have an easy means of sharing their information with coaches, parents and athletes like you.
But I do.
And I believe the best way to help the sport of track and field and, more importantly, help kids, is for each of us to become better coaches. And that means maintaining an active role in our own coaching education.
That’s why I’m changing frequencies and focusing the bulk of my efforts on helping to improve the sport by bringing you information from the coaches I go to when I have questions.
And that means my home will no longer be AthletesAcceleration.com.
Therefore, my new home base will be here at the all new CompleteTrackandField.com. It’s the new home of coaching education across the spectrum of events and disciplines in the sport of track and field.
After releasing the Learning from the Legends seminar with Kebba Tolbert, Tom Tellez and Dan Pfaff, it’s time to switch event groups.
So I’ll be kicking things off with a brand new Master Class from 14 year USATF Level II Lead Instructor Scott Christensen. It’s titled ‘Preparing the Elite Junior Middle Distance Runner (800m – 1600m)’ and, as expected, it’s awesome.
We’ll be releasing the information next week so keep an eye out for my email on the topic. Because Coach Christensen has a very cool offer for the first 150 people who take advantage of this program. But more on that coming Monday.
(My Twitter followers will get access a little early, so….)
And that’s just the beginning. Over the coming months we’ll be bringing new programs on 100m training with Marc Mangiacotti (I’ve seen the presentation and it’s as good as it gets), sprint hurdles with Tony Veney, horizontal jumps with Kebba Tolbert, as well as throws programs with former NCAA All American Ray Wilks and current LSU throws coach Derek Yush, to name a few.
If you want to stay at the cutting edge of track and field training without slogging through one of those fancy forum sites where everyone outdoes each other with $6 words or wade through 100 pages of meet results, then enter your name and email address. We’re giving away some good, free information just for stopping by.
If you’re not a track person, don’t worry. We’re not dropping everything else. We’ve got a really cool American Football project in the works, as well as several other multisport and
multidiscipline programs.
But if you’re a track and field coach, athlete or parent, bookmark this site and make it your homepage immediately.
In track,
Latif Thomas
P.S. The Top 3 reasons to follow me on Twitter:
1. Email is getting outdated. Stay current and get exclusive info that I’ll only be announcing via Twitter.
2. I have censors (sort of) who control what I say in the blog and through email. But on Twitter, I release the beast.
3. When I find good info scattered throughout the ‘net, I’ll tell you about it here. It won’t be in emails and it might not always be track related. But it will be interesting.

Excellent, that is what I have been waiting for as a middle school distance coach.
Latif,
What exactly does this mean in regards to your complete speed training programs, specifically the program designed for track? Are you still recommending, for example, complete speed training 2? I just want to clarify if this move away from Athletes’ Acceleration changes any of your prior stances towards this product. Thanks.
I still recommend CST2 because I believe it’s the most comprehensive sprints development program that exists in this universe. From the outside looking in, nothing changes. I’ll just be posting my information on this site and bringing in more coaches to help improve the sport.
